Islamabad, July 6, 2025: The Sindh government is moving ahead with plans to launch 1,000 electric buses in Karachi under the Peoples Green Transport Project, as Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has given the go-ahead to appoint transaction consultants to push the project forward.
This decision was made during a meeting of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Policy Board chaired by the Chief Minister. The meeting was also attended by provincial ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon, Saeed Ghani, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, and other top officials.
Officials mentioned that the project has cleared the technical assessment and matches the goals for eco-friendly transport. Rather than starting a new selection process, the government has chosen to keep working with the previously chosen consultants to prevent delays and speed up the project.

The consultants will now review a proposal submitted by a private group. If the proposal is found workable, the plan will be carried out in stages through a public-private partnership.

The project plans to run 600 buses of 12 meters and 400 buses of 8 meters, under a 10-year agreement based on payments per kilometer. Ten bus depots will be set up for smooth operations, and the buses will become government property after the contract period ends.
Besides this, the board also discussed progress on two other key projects: the Shahrah-e-Bhutto high-speed road, covering 39 kilometers from Korangi Creek Avenue to the M-9 Motorway, and the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone project.
