Islamabad, May 21, 2025: The Sindh cabinet has approved major Sindh road safety reforms to improve traffic management and reduce accidents across the province.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Traffic Courts Established: Dedicated courts will exclusively handle traffic violations for faster resolutions.
  • Crackdown on Illegal Practices: Strict action against fancy number plates, tinted windows, fake government plates, and misuse of official vehicles.
  • Double Fines on Officials: Government vehicles violating rules will face double penalties to promote accountability.
  • E-Challan & Surveillance: Introduction of an electronic challan system linked with surveillance cameras for real-time monitoring and enforcement.
  • Fitness Certificates Mandatory: All commercial vehicles must have valid fitness certificates; violators fined Rs. 10,000.
  • Vehicle Age Restrictions:
    • Vehicles older than 20 years banned on interprovincial routes.
    • Vehicles older than 25 years banned on intercity routes.
  • Ban on Substandard Vehicles: Rickshaws and loaders that fail safety standards will be completely banned.
  • HTV Licensing Reforms:
    • Minimum license age lowered from 24 to 22 years (with 1 year LTV experience).
    • Mandatory 30-hour certified training before licensing.
  • Automated Enforcement: Automated fines for no-parking violations to ensure fair and prompt penalties.
  • Hefty Fines for Illegal Modifications: Repeat offenders of tinted windows and other modifications may face fines up to Rs. 300,000.

Ministers Saeed Ghani and Mukesh Kumar Chawla emphasized that these Sindh road safety reforms aim to make roads safer and traffic management more efficient, ultimately reducing accidents and saving lives.
