Islamabad, June 27, 2025: The Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has officially extended the biometric verification deadline for vehicles and motorcycles to August 14, urging citizens to act promptly.

Deputy Director Asif Ali Bhatti confirmed this will be the final extension, warning no further leniency will be granted. Vehicle owners must complete biometric registration or transfer ownership before the new deadline to avoid complications.

“All vehicles not registered in the owner’s name must be transferred with biometric verification immediately,” Bhatti stressed. After August 14, biometric authentication will become mandatory for both buyers and sellers during all vehicle transfers.

Over 5 Million Bikes Missing Number Plates

Bhatti also highlighted that over 5 million motorcycles in Sindh, especially Karachi, still lack official number plates. Out of 6.5 to 7 million registered motorcycles across the province, only 1.6 million have received plates.

Despite the standard Rs 2,450 fee, most owners haven’t collected theirs. To ease the process, distribution counters are active at Civic Centre, Executive Office Clifton, and Awami Markaz, with online applications also available. Due to growing crowds, the Civic Centre will soon expand its counters.

Advanced Number Plates, Ongoing Agent Mafia Crackdown

The newly designed plates come with high-tech security features, ensuring visibility to surveillance cameras, even at night. However, citizens continue to report delays — sometimes over a month — in plate issuance, despite the department’s one-week claim.

Bhatti admitted that while efforts continue to dismantle agent mafias, these networks persist. He encouraged citizens to avoid intermediaries and use official channels for all registrations and collections.
