Islamabad, 11 June 2025:  Budget for New Buses has been earmarked in Sindh’s upcoming fiscal blueprint for 2025–26, reflecting the provincial government’s renewed commitment to modernizing its public transportation network with additional buses, electric taxis, and EV scooters.

During a high-level review meeting led by Sindh’s Senior Minister for Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, officials discussed various ongoing and upcoming initiatives under the Department of Transport and Mass Transit.

The session was attended by key officials, including Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Sindh Mass Transit Authority MD Kamal Dayo, and TransKarachi CEO Fawad Ghaffar Soomro.

The meeting provided a detailed assessment of multiple projects, including the successful People’s Bus Service and the planned expansion of electric vehicle (EV) mobility solutions. Participants also explored the development of EV charging infrastructure across key urban locations.

Minister Memon was briefed extensively on the progress of projects from the 2024–25 financial year. Officials highlighted increased investor interest in launching bus operations through public-private partnerships, aiming to expand affordable and eco-friendly transportation in Sindh.

It was reported that a critical segment of the Yellow Line BRT the Jam Sadiq Bridge portion has been completed, with an inauguration expected in the coming months. Meanwhile, authorities have been directed to accelerate the work on the Red Line BRT to ensure timely delivery.

Budget for New Buses reflects Sindh’s strategic push toward creating a cleaner, more efficient transit ecosystem. According to Minister Memon, the government remains dedicated to developing a modern and sustainable public transport system that meets the evolving needs of the population.

He added that environmentally friendly and low-cost mobility options for the public remain a key focus, with plans underway to introduce additional buses for Karachi, including double-decker vehicles.

Minister Memon also emphasized the government’s broader goal of integrating EV buses and expanding the People’s Bus Service throughout Karachi. “Our objective is to establish an extensive network reaching every corner of the city and beyond,” he said.

Budget for New Buses, he noted, is part of Sindh’s long-term effort to regulate traffic flow and enhance urban mobility through advanced transport infrastructure.
