Islamabad, Sep 6: The Sindh government’s decision to purchase 138 double-cabin vehicles for Assistant Commissioners (ACs) has been challenged in the Sindh High Court (SHC), ARY News reported.
According to specifics, Jamaat-e-Islami MPA Muhammad Farooq submitted a petition claiming that the purchase is needless and an unwarranted waste of tax dollars.
The petition said that the Sindh government’s plan to provide its officers with opulent cars is irrational and that the nation’s economy is under strain.
It went on to say that public assistance, healthcare, and education should be the primary recipients of taxpayer funds.
The Sindh government resolved earlier on September 5 to purchase new cars for assistant commissioners at a cost of Rs. 2 billion.
According to specifics, the finance department has received a letter from Sindh’s general administration department requesting the allocation of Rs 2 billion to purchase new double cabin cars for 138 assistant commissioners.
The new car will be used by the assistant commissioners for daily office tasks.
The Sindh government spokeswoman issued a statement in response to the intense criticism, stating that assistant commissioners are a crucial component of the administrative structure and are responsible for ensuring that the government machinery functions properly in outlying areas.
“The majority of the vehicles are currently out-of-date and in poor condition; the assistant commissioners’ last vehicle purchases were made in 2010 and 2012,” the official went on.
Many officials are forced to utilize private cars for official business due to a lack of working government vehicles, and others are still using cars from 2005.
The government of Sindh insisted that buying new cars will save a lot of money on gasoline and other expenses in addition to lowering maintenance costs.
