Islamabad, July 10, 2025: The Sindh government faces legal action in the High Court over its mandatory Ajrak number plates, sparking outrage among vehicle owners.

Activist Faizan Hussain filed a petition on Wednesday, challenging the Excise Department’s move to enforce new Ajrak-themed license plates. The plea argues the policy is unfair, forcing citizens to pay again despite already owning valid plates. The cost—Rs. 1,850 for bikes and Rs. 2,450 for cars—has drawn widespread criticism.

The petition claims that traffic police are misusing the law to fine and impound vehicles without the new plates, turning it into a profit-making scheme. It highlights that while official plates are delayed, counterfeit ones are openly sold on roadsides.

The petitioner urged the court to stop vehicle impoundments and demanded the government issue Ajrak number plates free of charge to all registered owners.

The Sindh High Court is expected to hear the case soon, amid growing public anger over the move.
