Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has launched the second phase of the English as a Subject for Teachers & Educators (EaSTE-II) programme in partnership with the British Council. The initiative aims to improve teacher capacity, benefiting 30,000 newly appointed primary and early childhood teachers, 1,000 mentors, and 35 course leaders across Sindh.
Shah said EaSTE-II builds on the success of its first phase and aligns with Sindh’s Continuous Professional Development Model (2022) and Early Childhood Care & Education Policy (2024). The programme will provide teachers with professional skills, digital training modules, and peer learning platforms, ultimately improving outcomes for nearly two million students in public schools.
He emphasized English proficiency as a global skill while also promoting inclusivity by prioritising women, minority groups, and differently-abled teachers, alongside recognition of local languages like Sindhi and Urdu.
Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah highlighted that strong language skills help children perform better across all subjects, describing EaSTE-II as a bridge to knowledge and critical thinking. British Council Country Director James Hampson and British Deputy High Commissioner Lance Domm also attended the launch, reaffirming UK support for Sindh’s education reforms.
