Islamabad, May 1, 2025: In a major breakthrough for public transportation, the Sindh government has officially introduced the Peoples Pink and Normal Taxi Service, a groundbreaking project designed to reshape the commuting landscape across the province.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon shared the exciting update via social media on Wednesday.
Later in an official statement, Memon highlighted that this innovative service aims to empower women travelers, guarantee secure rides, and promote environmentally responsible transport solutions throughout Sindh.
Labeling it a landmark achievement, Memon — who also oversees the transport and information ministries — reaffirmed the provincial government’s strong commitment to establishing a more inclusive, safe, and advanced public transport system.
He emphasized that this fresh taxi initiative aligns with the broader provincial vision of fostering equal opportunities and improving accessibility for all communities.
Earlier this month, Memon had also revealed the government’s intentions to streamline and unify various ride-hailing services currently operating in Karachi.
While leading a high-level transport department session, he disclosed that popular services such as Careem and Yango would soon be brought under a single regulatory framework.
This integration aims to provide residents with safe, legal, and standardized commuting options.
“We are focused on bringing all taxi operations in Karachi under a centralized, modern structure,” Memon stated, stressing the administration’s broader mission of overhauling and enhancing the transportation ecosystem across the region.
The launch of the Peoples Pink and Normal Taxi Service marks a significant step toward making Sindh’s transport network not only more reliable but also sustainable and female-friendly.
This initiative reflects the government’s proactive approach to addressing public concerns, reducing emissions, and improving urban mobility.
Experts believe that this move can increase economic opportunities, especially for women drivers, while also ensuring safer travel experiences for female passengers — a major concern in many urban centers. By pushing forward such reforms, the Sindh government positions itself as a leader in progressive transportation policies in Pakistan.
