Islamabad, Jan 24: The Sindh government has formally requested the federal government to assist Pakistan Gas Solutions Limited (PGSL) in securing the necessary permissions to conduct a feasibility study for the development of the Keti Bander Port.

The Energy Department of Sindh has addressed this request to the Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, highlighting the importance of developing the port to accommodate LNG, RLNG, LPG, containers, and general cargo.

In a letter dated July 10, 2034, PGSL expressed its interest in advancing the Keti Bander Port project and requested authorization to carry out a comprehensive feasibility study. This study aims to assess the project’s potential and determine the logistics required for the port’s expansion.

After careful consideration, the Sindh Cabinet reviewed the proposal during its meeting on December 4, 2024, and granted PGSL the go-ahead for conducting the feasibility study.

However, Following the Cabinet’s approval, the Energy Department of Sindh issued a Letter of Support to PGSL, outlining the conditions under which the feasibility study would take place.

However, The letter emphasized that PGSL would bear all costs and risks associated with the study, with no financial responsibility for the Sindh government.

This arrangement ensures that the project proceeds without any immediate financial commitment from the provincial government.

Should the feasibility study prove successful, the Sindh government will engage in discussions with PGSL to finalize the terms and conditions for the project’s implementation.

The Government of Sindh will sign an Implementation Agreement with PGSL after reviewing and approving the study’s findings.

However, The Sindh government has also requested the Ministry of Maritime Affairs to provide the necessary support to PGSL in obtaining the required permissions and No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) to move forward with the feasibility study.

Although, This collaborative effort aims to ensure that all legal, regulatory, and policy requirements are met, paving the way for the successful development of the Keti Bander Port.
