Islamabad, Aug 7, 2025: The Sindh government is all set to introduce a new train service between Rohri and Karachi, aiming to enhance public mobility and reduce traffic pressure. This move is part of a wider strategy to revive rail transport and improve travel access across the province.
The decision was taken during a significant session between Sindh Minister for Energy and Planning, Nasir Hussain Shah, and a Pakistan Railways team. Both sides agreed to work jointly on several railway development schemes, with the Rohri-Karachi train declared a top priority. Minister Shah called the route “essential at this time,” noting it would ease load on highways and offer a dependable transport solution for daily passengers.
A Karachi-Sukkur urban train system, inspired by Lahore’s model, is also being studied. This service would run between Karachi, Rohri, and Sukkur, making travel easier for local residents and cutting reliance on intercity buses.

To smooth out implementation, a joint task force featuring representatives from both Sindh and Railways will be formed. The team will address key issues like station upgrades, level crossing safety, and removing illegal structures near tracks.
Minister Shah further stressed the need for station cleanliness, beautification, and green belt development. He also invited the private sector to adopt stations through public-private deals.
The provincial government confirmed full backing for ML-1 and KCR projects. Shah criticized delays in removing encroachments, saying public benefit must come first.
