Islamabad, July 24, 2025: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said a new road corridor will be made on Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Malir Expressway, also called Shahrah-i-Bhutto. This road will stretch from Qayyumabad to Karachi Port with the main goal to help port traffic move easily and connect better to the motorway.

The decision was made in a top-level meeting at the Chief Minister House. CM said the new road will make it easier for trucks and goods from Port Qasim, Landhi, and Korangi to reach the motorway. He said this is important for improving transport and goods delivery in Pakistan.

He added that the full Shahrah-i-Bhutto road, from Korangi Causeway to Kathore, will be ready for public use by December 2025. Also, a new road from the National Highway to the motorway will be opened soon.

CM said it is very important to build the part of the corridor from Karachi Port to Qayyumabad quickl which will give direct motorway access for trucks from the port.

A private company has submitted a proposal to work on this project. They will design, finance, operate, and later hand over the project to the government. This DFOT plan includes a 16.5 km road from Jam Sadiq Interchange to Karachi Port. Out of this, 10.4 km will be a flyover which will pass through Boat Basin, Ziauddin Chowrangi and East Wharf.

The CM said a traffic survey is already done and the new corridor will allow both heavy and light traffic. Furthermore, interchanges will be made in such a way that they do not disturb nearby houses.

CM also shared updates on other development work in Karachi. He said the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) work is going fast now, also redesign work of Sohrab Goth roundabout is going on to reduce traffic problems.

“These projects will not only improve connectivity but also change the city’s overall look and benefit the people of Karachi,” CM said.

The meeting was joined by Minister Saeed Ghani, Mayor Murtaza Wahab, CM’s assistant Qasim Naveed, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, P&D Board Chairman Najam Shah, Karachi Commissioner Hassan Naqvi, and others.
