In a significant verdict, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has dismissed a petition filed by a brother challenging his sister’s rightful share in inheritance.
During the hearing, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan emphasized the invaluable contributions of women in households, stating, “Sisters cook meals and manage household chores, which brothers benefit from, so denying them their rightful property share is unjust.”
Heading the two-member bench, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi highlighted that the Quran explicitly guarantees sisters a portion of inheritance, making any attempt to deny this a violation of religious law. He also pointed out that the property distribution documents lacked the sister’s signature, further strengthening her claim.
