Islamabad, Sep 22: As many as six soldiers were martyred and 12 terrorists killed in two separate operations by security forces in North and South Waziristan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.
two intense encounters took place between Pakistani security forces and terrorists in the North and South Waziristan districts, resulting in the elimination of 12 militants, referred to as “Khwarij” by the military, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
In the first incident, security forces detected the movement of a group of seven terrorists attempting to infiltrate Pakistan from Afghanistan via the Spinwam area of North Waziristan.
The infiltration attempt was thwarted as all seven militants were killed during a fierce exchange of fire. A substantial quantity of weapons, ammunition, and explosives was also recovered by the troops.
In a second incident in the Ladha area of South Waziristan, a group of terrorists attacked a security post. The forces responded valiantly, killing five militants. However, six Pakistani soldiers embraced martyrdom while defending the post.
The military’s media wing emphasized that sanitization operations were underway to clear the area of any remaining terrorist elements.
The statement reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to eliminating terrorism, with the sacrifices of its soldiers reinforcing this determination.
Amid the surge in violent attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, the government has categorized the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as “Fitna al-Khawarij” in a strategic move to combat terrorism ideologically. The nation has faced increased militant activity, particularly following the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021.
