Snap has officially rolled out Snap OS 2.0, redefining how AR glasses will shape the future of immersive technology. Packed with a built-in browser, WebXR compatibility, and upgraded tools, this update takes Spectacles to the next level for both developers and everyday users.

Faster, Smarter Browser Experience

The new browser in Snap OS 2.0 delivers faster page loading, improved energy efficiency, and smoother navigation. A redesigned home screen now includes widgets, bookmarks, and an updated toolbar with voice or text input. Just like on a laptop, users can refresh pages, revisit browsing history, and even resize windows without leaving their AR environment.

One of the standout features is the Gallery Lens, giving users a seamless way to view, organize, and share captured moments directly from Spectacles. Videos and photos can be easily favorited, shared with friends, or posted to Stories, creating a more engaging memory-sharing experience.

To ensure stability on the go, Travel Mode has been introduced. Whether in a car or on a plane, AR tracking remains steady, reducing disruptions and maintaining immersion throughout the journey.

Spotlight Lens & WebXR Integration

Snap OS 2.0 also introduces the Spotlight Lens, which overlays digital content into real-world surroundings. From streaming creator videos while cooking to watching clips while relaxing, vertical video fits naturally with the portrait field of view of Spectacles.

Most importantly, the integration of WebXR support unlocks direct access to AR experiences from WebXR-enabled websites. This gives developers greater creative freedom and allows users to enjoy interactive AR without limitations.

Following the launch of its fifth-generation Spectacles last year, Snap is now gearing up for a consumer-ready AR glasses release in 2026. The timing of Snap OS 2.0 also aligns strategically with Meta’s upcoming Connect event, where new developments in smart glasses and immersive AI technology are expected.
