Islamabad, May 4, 2025: Snapchat users across the globe, including in Pakistan, faced a major disruption on Sunday, with thousands reporting difficulties accessing the popular messaging app.
According to Downdetector, an online service that tracks technical issues in real time, many users were either logged out of their accounts or unable to send and receive snaps and messages.
The disruption seemed to impact users in countries including Pakistan, the UK, and France.
In Pakistan, the disruption sparked a wave of complaints on social media, particularly from users in cities like Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar.

Downdetector reported that 57% of users were being logged out, while 24% faced trouble sharing content and 18% were unable to upload photos or videos.
Despite the wide-scale nature of the issue, Snapchat has yet to release an official statement. Industry experts suspect the cause may be linked to a server-side error or complications arising from a recent app update.

Some users reported that Snapchat worked with a VPN, hinting at possible region-specific server or network issues.
Downdetector’s heat map showed a surge in problem reports well above average levels, confirming that the outage was not isolated to one geographic area.

In Pakistan alone, over half the users reported login problems, while others struggled with content sharing and uploading by late Sunday afternoon.
With no formal response from Snapchat yet, frustrated users continue to seek answers and temporary workarounds.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the reliability of widely-used social media apps and the need for better communication from tech companies during service outages.
As of Sunday evening, the platform remained unstable for many users, leaving them waiting for an update or fix from Snapchat’s technical team.
