A new scheme for electricity theft concealment and overbilling has been uncovered in LESCO. Consumers who installed solar panels have been massively defrauded through their electricity bills. Their export units were deliberately omitted, resulting in bills worth millions of rupees being issued.

Under the Net Metering Project, consumers were to be billed based on both import and export via bi-directional meters. However, LESCO billed only for import units, violating NEPRA regulations. This practice not only inflated bills but also concealed line losses.

According to a report by City 42, the company has faced criticism for its lack of transparency. Consumers are urged to review their bills carefully and report any discrepancies. LESCO has been directed to resolve these issues promptly to restore consumer trust.
