Islamabad, July 8, 2025: SA vs Zim test July 7, 2025, may not match the glory of that iconic day at Lord’s last month, but it will forever remain memorable for Wiaan Mulder. Only weeks after lifting the World Test Championship trophy, Mulder nearly rewrote Test history during the South Africa vs Zimbabwe Test.
Brian Lara’s long-standing world record of 400 not out was under real threat. Mulder, captaining in Keshav Maharaj’s absence, reached 367 by lunch. But in a surprising turn, South Africa declared at 626 for 5, with Mulder himself making the call, sparking debates across cricket circles.
Mulder’s epic innings, watched by his father, surpassed many legends, including Jacques Kallis and Hashim Amla. He smashed 49 fours and four sixes, dominating a lackluster Zimbabwe bowling unit. His landmark triple-century arrived in the 101st over, coming off just 297 balls—the second-fastest in history.

After the fireworks with the bat, Mulder struck with the ball too, removing Wesley Madhevere and Craig Ervine quickly. However, debutant Prenelan Subrayen stole the spotlight with 4 for 42, alongside Senuran Muthusamy.
