South Africa Name Full-Strength Squad for Maiden WTC Final

Islamabad, 13 May, 2025: South Africa has named a full-strength 15-member squad for the WTC 2025 Final against Australia, which begins on June 11 at Lord’s.

This will be the Proteas’ maiden appearance in a WTC final after finishing top of the standings with a points percentage of 69.44.

Temba Bavuma will captain the side in what promises to be a historic moment for South African cricket.

One of the key highlights is the return of fast bowler Lungi Ngidi, who has regained fitness following a groin injury that kept him out of recent Test action.

Ngidi’s return comes after a successful stint in limited-overs formats and global T20 leagues.

Selectors made two changes from the squad that beat Pakistan, dropping Kwena Maphaka for Lungi Ngidi and omitting Matthew Breetzke.

The batting line-up features a blend of youth and experience, with Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, and Aiden Markram expected to open.

Bavuma, David Bedingham, and Tristan Stubbs will form the middle order, while Kyle Verreynne adds both wicketkeeping skills and lower-order strength.

South Africa’s bowling attack remains a major strength. Pace options include Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, Wiaan Mulder, Dane Paterson, Corbin Bosch, and Ngidi.

Keshav Maharaj will lead the spin department, backed by all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy.

Having played 12 Tests in their WTC campaign, South Africa secured eight wins, including series victories over Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and West Indies.

Australia, meanwhile, have also announced their squad for the final, with the return of all-rounder Cameron Green.
