Islamabad, Sep 21: In the third T20I at Multan Cricket Stadium, South Africa women defeated Pakistan women by eight wickets, clinching the three-match series 2-1. After winning the first T20I by 10 runs and Pakistan responding with a 13-run victory in the second T20I, South Africa sealed the series on Friday.
Chasing a target of 154, South Africa lost opener Tazmin Brits for a duck in the first over. However, a crucial 81-run second-wicket partnership between captain Laura Wolvaardt (45 off 37 balls) and Anneke Bosch (46 off 37 balls, retired hurt) steadied the innings. Later, a blistering knock by Annerie Dercksen (44 off 23 balls) ensured South Africa reached the target with nine balls to spare, supported by Sune Luus (14 not out).
For Pakistan, Sadia Iqbal and Tuba Hassan claimed one wicket each.
Earlier, Pakistan posted 153/5 in their 20 overs, with top contributions from Sidra Amin (37 off 40 balls), Muneeba Ali (33 off 26 balls), and Fatima Sana (27 off 17 balls). Nonkululeko Mlaba took one key wicket for South Africa.
Both teams will now travel to the UAE for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, starting on 3 October. South Africa will join Group B, while Pakistan will compete in Group A.
