Spotify has officially rolled out its new in-app Messages feature, giving users a dedicated space to share music, podcasts, and audiobooks directly with friends and family. Starting this week, the feature is available to both Free and Premium users worldwide.

How Spotify Messages Works
Previously, millions of Spotify listeners shared tracks through Instagram, WhatsApp, and TikTok. With Messages, Spotify now brings conversations inside the app without removing external sharing. Users can:

  • Send songs, playlists, podcasts, and audiobooks in one-on-one chats.
  • React with emojis and text replies.
  • Access chats by tapping their profile photo at the top of the app.
  • Manage privacy with options to accept/decline requests, block accounts, or disable the feature.

Spotify will also suggest people to message based on past interactions, such as collaborative playlists, Blends, Jams, or family plan activity.

Boosting Discovery for Artists & Podcasters
According to Spotify, Messages is designed to make recommendations more personal while helping artists, writers, and podcasters get discovered. By encouraging private sharing within small groups, Spotify aims to complement its existing discovery tools.

The company confirmed that conversations will be encrypted in transit and at rest, while harmful or unlawful content will be monitored through proactive detection and human moderation.
