For added account protection, several online services have long provided two-factor authentication (2FA). Not just your password but also a login code is needed for this. These codes can be sent by emails, SMS text messages, or certain applications.
It looks like Spotify is finally getting involved, although in a small way. According to reports, a small sample of frequent users is being tested using a simple 2FA method. The user cannot select the code distribution mechanism or activate or deactivate the code in this early version.
Users are allegedly unable to modify the feature or select another way at this time; the system reportedly only sends the 2FA code by email. This implies that the test phase is still extremely early.
Since Spotify hasn’t made an official statement, we may presume that the specifics are still being worked out. Before a more widespread release, perhaps, the system will be improved.
It’s crucial to remember that even taking this simple first step is a positive one. It’s preferable to have 2FA than none at all, especially in light of previous attacks that allowed Spotify Premium accounts to be hacked using stolen login credentials. Such breaches may be avoided with a strong 2FA mechanism, which is something we hope Spotify would implement in the future.
