ISLAMADAB JULY27: The women’s side from Pakistan lost against Sri Lanka on Friday at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by three wickets to guarantee their spot in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024 final.
Despite a difficult start that saw them at 19-2 after four overs due to the early dismissals of Vishmi Gunaratne and Harshitha Samarawickrama, the hosts secured victory in the last over, chasing a target of 141 runs.
Once again, Chamari Athapaththu of Sri Lanka performed a captain’s performance, securing the innings with an outstanding 63 off 48 balls that included 10 boundaries.
With one ball remaining, The Islanders were able to complete the mark owing to Anushka Sanjeewani’s crucial 24 runs scored further down the order and Pakistan’s skipper Nida Dar’s crucial wide delivery in the last over. Her efforts kept the chase alive.
Sadia Iqbal was Pakistan’s most effective bowler, taking four wickets, followed by Nida Dar and Omaima Sohail, who each took one wicket.
Pakistan had earlier chosen to bat first and amassed a respectable 141 runs. Muneeba Ali and Gull Feroza, the openers, got off to a good start and put up 61 runs together before being quickly removed by Udeshika Prabodhani.
