Islamabad, July 12, 2025: Pakistan is all set to welcomr its first-ever satellite-based internet as Elon Musk’s Starlink plans to launch its operations by the end of this year. The company has already submitted its registration request and agreed to function within the country’s existing telecom regulations, according to sources close to the matter.

The Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (P-SARB) policy framework to oversee international satellite service providers is in final stages. This new framework will be the basis for granting operational licenses. Once complete, Starlink will be formally registered with the board and then issued a license by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

To move things forward, P-SARB recently held a session with representatives from global satellite companies at a hotel in Islamabad. The meeting was attended by IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja. Tech giants including Amazon, OneWeb, and Shanghai Telecom, also expressed interest in entering the Pakistani market. However, Starlink is the first company to formally begin the registration process.

There are rumours that Elon Musk may personally attend the official launch event in Pakistan later this year, although this has not been confirmed.

Already active in various South Asian countries, Starlink is expected to improve high-speed internet coverage in Pakistan’s rural and remote regions, where traditional broadband has limited reach.

Officials believe that this development will reshape Pakistan’s digital landscape, support e-learning, and boost online business opportunities.
