Islamabad, Apr 9, 2025: Strict Dress Guidelines have officially been enforced by the Punjab School Education Department, introducing a standardized dress code for educators in public and private institutions.
This initiative follows a similar directive rolled out in Sindh, aiming to promote a professional and culturally respectful environment within schools.
According to the newly issued circular, male teachers are no longer permitted to wear casual outfits such as jeans and T-shirts while on duty.
The directive stresses the importance of educators presenting themselves in a manner that aligns with both cultural traditions and the decorum expected within academic settings.

For female teachers and students, the policy outlines additional requirements. The notification strictly advises against the use of heavy cosmetics, high-heeled footwear, and ornate or costly jewelry while at school.
Female staff members are now required to wear traditional attire shalwar kameez accompanied by a dupatta or hijab to reinforce modesty and professionalism.
Strict Dress Guidelines have also been extended to private schools, which have been instructed to ensure their staff follow the same standards.
The department believes that a uniform dress code will reinforce discipline and reflect the dignity of the teaching profession.
The move comes amid growing concerns about the casual appearance of staff in educational institutions, which officials believe can negatively influence students’ perception of authority and academic seriousness.
By implementing this policy, the department aims to establish a learning environment that not only fosters academic excellence but also upholds social and cultural integrity.
Education officers have been directed to conduct regular inspections and take necessary disciplinary action against those who fail to adhere to the guidelines. The department has made it clear that compliance is mandatory and non-negotiable.
