Islamabad, 6 May, 2025: Student Card services are set to be launched across Punjab as part of a major provincial initiative aimed at improving access to education and supporting youth development.

The Punjab government has announced the upcoming rollout of a digital identification card for pupils attending both public and private schools and colleges throughout the province.

The project, being spearheaded by the Punjab Education Department, is designed to offer a broad array of benefits for students.

Among its most impactful features is the provision of complimentary travel on public buses for all cardholders.

This move is expected to significantly ease the financial burden of commuting, particularly for those from rural areas or economically disadvantaged households who often struggle with transport costs.

In addition to facilitating travel, the Student Card will function as a comprehensive digital academic identity.

It will store each student’s educational performance, records of co-curricular involvement, and other personal achievements.

Authorities believe this will enhance long-term academic planning and provide better career preparation support.

Education officials have also indicated that the card will serve as a unified portal for scholarship opportunities at both national and international levels.

This integrated system aims to streamline the process for applying to financial aid programmes and scholarships, making higher education more accessible for all eligible students.

Plans are also underway to link the programme with private sector partners. Collaborations with firms offering digital education platforms, career counselling, and skill development tools are expected to further expand the benefits of the initiative.

The data collected through the card system will be compiled into a centralised government database.

This will help officials better assess regional educational needs and guide resource allocation across the province, enhancing both policy-making and infrastructure planning.

Though a specific launch timeline has not been disclosed, provincial representatives have confirmed that work on the system is progressing steadily, with technical development and stakeholder coordination already in motion.

Once introduced, this initiative is expected to bring lasting improvements in educational equity and accessibility across Punjab, aligning with broader efforts to digitally modernise public services and support the younger population.
