The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench on Monday took up a petition against the Punjab government’s decision to extend summer vacations in schools.

The case was filed by a student, Danial, who argued that keeping schools closed for nearly three months was unjustified. His lawyer, Hafiz Waqar Ahmad Awan, told the court that the move was damaging the future of students.

Justice Jawadul Hassan, who heard the matter, issued notices to the Punjab education secretary and other officials, seeking explanations. He questioned the logic behind the government’s step and remarked, “Courts have remained open even during wars. What is this practice of shutting schools first for summer and then for fog”

The judge stressed that education is a constitutional right and said students cannot be deprived of it. He also noted that parents pay heavy fees in the hope of continuous learning for their children.

The case will proceed after the Punjab government submits its response to the court.
