Islamabad, Sep 7: The federal cabinet has extended the period for the export of sugar by 15 days.
Government sources claim that the 45-day window for sugar exports has been extended to 60 days. Previously, one and a half lakh tonnes of sugar could be exported.
Unused quota will be exportable by sugar mills for a longer duration. Sugarcane farmers who are not paid by mills will not be covered by the extension.
The conditions governing sugar’s retail and ex-mill export prices won’t change. It has been mandated that the Cabinet Committee for Monitoring Sugar Export keep an eye on the pricing.
