Islamabad, Mar 26, 2025: The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has revealed that the birth of the Shawwal crescent is set for March 29, 2025, at 3:58 PM (PST), based on astronomical calculations.
However, whether the moon will be visible depends on crucial elements such as its age, distance from the sun, elevation at sunset, and overall atmospheric clarity.
Key Astronomical Factors:
-
Moon’s Age at Sunset: Approximately 27 hours
-
Distance from the Sun: Around 16 degrees
-
Altitude at Sunset: Nearly 14 degrees
Given these conditions, there is a strong likelihood that the Shawwal crescent will be visible across Pakistan on the evening of March 30, 2025.
If the moon is confirmed, Eid ul-Fitr will be observed on March 31, 2025, concluding Ramadan after 29 days.

Similarly, Saudi Arabia and various Middle Eastern nations are also anticipated to spot the new moon on March 30, aligning their Eid celebrations with Pakistan on March 31, 2025.
Despite these scientific estimations, SUPARCO emphasized that the ultimate verdict on moon sighting will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
The decision will rely on verified testimonies from different regions across the country.
