A cloudburst, landslides flattened scores in Swabi district of K-P, disrupting families, damaging residences, according to officials, confirmed on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner Swabi, Nasrullah Khan reports that overnight the torrential downpour hit an overnight in Dalori Bala and affected almost a dozen houses by flooding and submerging them. Khan said 40 to 50 families live in the small village, and about 15 to 20 of them are severely effected. There were reports that some had been killed but these were unverified reports, he said no body had been recovered.

The rescuers got to the disaster area on foot since vehicles could not cross. Khan elaborated how people have been rescued by boats and ladders after being trapped inside homes, relief operations were started right away as floodwaters started receding. Given that Swabi had limited resources, backup support in the form of personnel was called in terms of Haripur and Mardan as the commissioner of Mardan directly oversaw the operation. Troops of the Pakistan Army had also been used.

The number of people who have been rescued and the emergency shelters and relief camps still shelter displaced people go above 70. Police urged residents to observe caution since more rain is predicted over the next few days.

With officials mobilizing all resources available without delay, K-P Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur issued new instructions to officials asking them to mobilize all resources available to them and NDMA, on the other hand, reported that over 670 people have lost their lives countrywide, in the summer monsoon tragedies.

Rescue operations continue in K-P with cloudburst, landslides in Swabi destroying lives in the region with the authorities cautioning about more rain cover expected till August 2021.
