Islamabad, July 23, 2025: Sweden work permit system is all set to introduce key reforms starting May 21, 2026, making it easier for foreign workers to move, work, and stay in the country.
The new rules will bring better flexibility, longer job security, and faster processing for those applying under the Single Permit system.
What’s Changing?
- Job Change Made Easy: Workers will no longer be tied to one employer or job. They can switch jobs without applying for a new permit—only a notification is required.
- Extended Job Search Time: If someone loses their job, they’ll now get 6 months to find a new one, instead of just 3—applies to those holding permits for over two years.
- Longer Work Permits: The current 6-month initial permits will be extended to up to 2 years, making life easier for new migrants.
- No Hidden Costs: Employers will no longer be allowed to deduct permit application fees from the worker’s pay.
- Faster Application Processing: The standard processing time will be cut down to 90 days, down from 120 days.
