The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is planning to bring back the publication of the Tax Directory for parliamentarians and taxpayers after a gap of three years. The last directory was issued for Tax Year 2019, released in January 2022.
FBR Chairman Rashid Mehmood Langrial confirmed on Friday that the revenue body would seek the federal government’s approval for this step next week, according to a report by The News.
The move comes as part of the FBR’s Transformation Plan. Initially, the tax authority had assured the IMF that it could generate around Rs. 400 billion through strict enforcement measures. However, since the IMF did not agree to this approach, the FBR is now turning to the Tax Directory as an alternative strategy.

The directory is intended to act as a “name-and-shame” tool against individuals who conceal their true income and evade large sums in taxes. Since its publication requires federal cabinet approval, the FBR has already forwarded a summary to obtain the government’s go-ahead.
