Islamabad, 29 Apr, 2025: South Africa’s women’s cricket team delivered a strong batting performance against India Women on Tuesday, April 29, at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, with opener Tazmin Brits making headlines by scoring a remarkable century.
After winning the toss, India opted to bat first under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur.
Opener Pratika Rawal led from the front with a steady innings of 78 off 91 deliveries, including seven boundaries and a six. Her composed knock helped India post a competitive total of 276 runs.
In response, South Africa began their chase confidently. Openers Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits forged a solid 140-run partnership, laying a strong foundation.

Brits, in particular, stood out with a commanding century — her third in One Day Internationals.
Her innings of 108 off 105 balls featured 13 fours and three sixes and placed her among an elite group of South African players who have scored centuries against India in ODIs.
That list includes Lizelle Lee, Marizanne Kapp, and Laura Wolvaardt.

Brits’ performance, however, was not without drama. She was dropped by Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur when she was on 67, a costly mistake as Brits went on to reach triple figures.
Unfortunately, her innings ended prematurely when she was retired hurt after taking a painful blow, just as she was looking to push for an even bigger score.
At the latest update, South Africa were 185 for 3 after 37.3 overs, needing 92 runs from 74 balls to win. With wickets in hand and a strong start behind them, the chase remains finely balanced.
The match has not only been a gripping contest but also a showcase of individual brilliance, with Brits’ century adding a memorable chapter to South Africa’s cricket history.
