Islamabad, Jan 6: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has conducted an Independent Quality of Service (QoS) survey across 18 cities to evaluate the performance of Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs). This assessment aimed to measure key performance indicators (KPIs) related to voice, mobile broadband, and short messaging services (SMS), as specified in operator licenses and regulations.
According to the survey results, Zong secured the top position overall, excelling in nearly all evaluated attributes. Jazz followed as the second-best performer, with Ufone and Telenor ranking third and fourth, respectively. While the survey highlighted encouraging compliance levels with KPIs for voice and latency, it also revealed some performance gaps, particularly in areas affected by deteriorating internet and network issues throughout 2024.
The survey tested services in voice, mobile broadband (throughput, latency, and web browsing), and SMS. It involved approximately 2,400 kilometers of travel per operator over 63 days to cover as many areas as possible within the surveyed cities. A total of 290,000 mobile broadband tests and 41,700 voice and SMS tests were conducted during the evaluation.
One of the key findings was the assessment of 4G/LTE signal strength recorded in technology auto-detect mode. City-specific compliance levels showed that 90% confidence levels of signal strength were achieved across the surveyed routes.
While the survey underscored positive achievements in several areas, PTA highlighted the importance of addressing remaining challenges, particularly those related to internet connectivity and network stability. These findings serve as a benchmark for CMOs to enhance service quality and better meet consumer expectations across Pakistan.
