Islamabad, Mar 21, 2025: Tesla has announced a major recall affecting nearly all Cybertrucks in the U.S. due to a potential safety hazard.
The company revealed that an exterior panel on the vehicle might detach while driving, increasing the risk of accidents.
This recall, which applies to over 46,000 units manufactured between November 2023 and February 27, 2024, marks the eighth such action for the model since the start of the year.
Although Tesla does not provide specific delivery numbers for the Cybertruck, industry analysts believe that the affected vehicles account for most of the units currently on the road.
This latest issue presents another challenge for Tesla, which has been dealing with declining stock value, increased competition, and concerns about its aging vehicle lineup.
The recall stems from a stainless-steel trim panel that could separate from the truck’s body while in motion, creating a potential road hazard.
Tesla acknowledged that this issue could result in unusual noises inside the vehicle, or in some cases, the panel might visibly loosen or detach.
The automaker has received 151 warranty claims related to the defect but has not reported any accidents or injuries caused by it.
The Cybertruck, known for its unconventional design, has faced several production delays, and demand has slowed in recent months.

Despite Tesla delivering 1.79 million vehicles in 2024, Cybertruck sales remain a small fraction of that total.
Experts suggest that widespread recalls like this one could damage Tesla’s long-standing reputation for innovation and quality.
Industry analyst Sam Fiorani of AutoForecast Solutions noted that Tesla has largely avoided major quality concerns for years, but recalls of entire production runs highlight deeper manufacturing challenges.
Additionally, Tesla’s brand perception among consumers has shifted, with some former customers and potential buyers expressing concerns over quality and corporate decisions.
Following the recall announcement, Tesla’s stock showed only a slight increase.
During a company-wide meeting in Austin, CEO Elon Musk did not address the issue directly but praised the Cybertruck’s five-star safety rating from federal regulators.
He reassured investors about the vehicle’s overall crash safety and encouraged them to hold onto Tesla shares.
Tesla led the U.S. auto industry in recalls for 2024, accounting for 5.1 million affected vehicles, according to recall management firm BizzyCar. However, many of these recalls were resolved through over-the-air software updates.
The Cybertruck recall, however, requires physical repairs.
Tesla plans to replace the affected rail panel assemblies with a redesigned version that uses a more durable adhesive and an additional welded stud for reinforcement.
Production of the updated Cybertrucks will begin immediately, while undelivered units will be retrofitted before reaching customers.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) first alerted Tesla to a panel detachment complaint on February 21.
Analysts believe this recall will not significantly impact Tesla’s financial performance, given the relatively small number of Cybertruck sales compared to the Model 3 and Model Y.
However, ongoing quality concerns may influence consumer trust in the brand over time.
