Islamabad, May 18, 2025: Starting May 2025, Thailand will once again require tourist visa applicants to present proof of financial stability, a regulation that had been suspended in November 2023 to facilitate easier access for foreign visitors.
As per the reinstated rule, individuals applying for a Thai tourist visa must now show that they possess a minimum of 20,000 Thai Baht, through recent bank statements or an official sponsorship letter.
This requirement affects travelers from countries that do not fall under Thailand’s visa-free access list.

Thai embassies globally including those in the United States, France, and Norway have already begun implementing this revised policy.
In addition to proof of funds, applicants must continue to provide the usual paperwork, including a valid passport copy, a recent photograph, proof of residence, confirmed return flight tickets, and accommodation reservations.
Visa-Free Stay Duration Under Review
Currently, citizens from 93 countries are allowed to visit Thailand without a visa for up to 60 days. However, authorities are reviewing this arrangement and may reduce the visa-exempt period to 30 days due to concerns about its potential misuse.
While no final decision has been made, officials suggest an update may be announced soon.
Digital Arrival Card Becomes Compulsory
In another key development, Thailand will require all foreign arrivals to fill out the new Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online prior to their trip, starting May 1, 2025.

This digital form, which replaces the traditional TM6 paper card, will gather essential traveler information such as personal data, travel itinerary, and the address of stay in Thailand.
Travelers who are unable to complete the TDAC before their departure will be offered limited support at immigration. However, officials strongly recommend submitting the form in advance to avoid unnecessary hold-ups at entry points.
Importantly, the TDAC is mandatory for all visitors, regardless of whether they require a visa.
