Thailand’s Department of Employment has announced a temporary measure to support foreign workers and their employers following technical problems in the newly launched e-Work Permit platform.

The department confirmed that manually filed applications for work permit renewals and cancellations will be accepted until January 28, 2026, ensuring that employment processes continue smoothly.

Launch of the e-Work Permit Platform

Introduced in October 2025, the e-Work Permit system is part of Thailand’s digital modernization drive. The platform is designed to make it easier for employers and foreign employees to submit work permit applications, renewals, and cancellations online—replacing traditional paper-based methods.

Manual Submissions Allowed Temporarily

Due to persistent system issues, the Department of Employment has permitted manual submissions as a temporary solution. Applicants who face technical errors can file their documents in person at provincial or area employment offices. A screenshot of the system error must be attached to validate each submission.

Transition Toward Full Digitalization

Authorities have clarified that this manual process is only a short-term arrangement. Once the e-Work Permit platform becomes fully functional, all companies and foreign workers will be required to complete applications entirely online. Approved individuals will then receive an electronic Work Permit ID card, signaling Thailand’s full transition to a paperless system.

Impact on Employers and Foreign Workers

The decision to allow manual submissions offers much-needed relief to businesses and foreign professionals struggling with technical delays. It prevents disruptions in employment renewals and ensures compliance continuity. In the long run, the e-Work Permit system aims to make Thailand’s administrative processes faster, more efficient, and transparent.
