Qualcomm is set to unveil its next flagship Snapdragon Elite Chip in late September, though the naming may cause some confusion. Informally referred to as the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, however, a recent report out of China indicates that the new device might drop officially as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The Gen 5 label might appear to omit a generation, as the label is based on the lineage of the Snapdragon, but the first 8 Elite was an 8 Gen 3, so, in effect, the model is the 5th generation.

Multiple Premium Variants

Another high-end chipset that is reported to be prepared by the company is known as Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Placed in the bottom of the Elite Gen 5, it will have good performance but a bit cheaper than the top of the line device, providing additional flexibility to device makers with flagship smartphones.

Early Performance Insights

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 benchmarks already appear on the next generation OnePlus 15, and this means that devices are already preparing to incorporate such Snapdragon Elite Chip into the next-generation premium offerings. The ability to improve the performance, increase the capabilities of AI and effective power management will make it a commercial favorite.
