The federal government has issued the official gazette notification for the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Functional Rules 2025, introducing fresh powers and a new structure for the agency.
Under these rules, the NCCIA has been given the legal authority to freeze bank accounts and seize movable and immovable assets of people found involved in cyber crime activities.
The notification also highlights the creation of specialized wings within the agency, including an Accountability Unit, Digital Forensics Unit, Media Unit, Research & Development Unit, and OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence) Unit. These new sections are designed to make digital investigations stronger, more transparent, and more effective in dealing with the rise of cyber threats across the country.
