Islamabad, March 19 2025: Three universities in Balochistan have indefinitely suspended on-campus classes and transitioned to virtual learning amid heightened security concerns in the province.
The affected institutions include the Universities of Balochistan, Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University, and the University of Turbat.
The decision follows a series of violent incidents, including the recent terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express near Sibi, which resulted in the tragic loss of 26 lives, including 18 security personnel.
In light of the escalating security threats, university administrations, after consultations with deans and department heads, have opted to shift academic activities online for the foreseeable future.
A notification issued by the Three Universities in Balochistan confirmed the transition to online learning, though it did not specify an official reason for the change.
Faculty members have been directed to use their existing IDs to access digital learning platforms and continue coursework remotely.

University of Balochistan Vice Chancellor Zahoor Ahmad Bazai explained that many students from remote areas were unable to reach campus due to ongoing protests and roadblocks on national highways.
Similarly, Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University has also instructed students to attend virtual classes throughout Ramadan.
The University of Turbat stated a meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan.
Announcing the immediate suspension of academic activities. The statement cited the ongoing “illegal occupation and blockade” of the university’s Administrative Block by a group of students as a contributing factor to the decision.
The University of Turbat administration reported that students had locked the entrance and staged a sit-in since March 13, preventing faculty and staff from accessing their offices.
Meanwhile, the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering, and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) has halted transport services for students.
A final decision on academic activities expected soon as examinations are currently underway. The primary focus remains on ensuring the safety of students, faculty, and staff while continuing academic activities through alternative means.
