A tragic incident occurred in the flooded River Chenab near Jalalpur Pirwala, where a Rescue 1122 boat capsized, resulting in the deaths of five people, including a woman and four children.
According to initial reports, the rescue boat overturned while evacuating flood victims. Over 20 passengers were on board, mostly women and children. Several were saved, while search operations continue to locate those still missing.
The accident happened in Wachha Sandila village, Tehsil Jalalpur. The deceased were identified as 80-year-old Bakht Bibi, six-year-old Fatima Bibi, seven-year-old Amir, three-year-old Mahnoor, and two infants aged six and three months.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed deep grief and extended condolences to the victims’ families. She assured that all possible support will be provided.
Meanwhile, PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia spoke with the Multan deputy commissioner and was briefed that the boat lost balance due to strong currents. He ordered the best medical care for the injured and emphasized that overloading must not be allowed on rescue or private boats during flood evacuations.

Authorities confirmed that evacuation and relief efforts will continue with stricter safety protocols to prevent further tragedies.
