Islamabad, July 12, 2025: United States President Donald Trump has announced to impose strict tariffs on the BRICS countries, including India. He made it clear that since India is a BRICS member, it too will fall under the new tariff measures.
Under this new policy, India will also have to face a 10 percent tariff on its exports to the United States, with no trade relief or special exemptions.
Trump in his Truth Social network post said “Any country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of Brics will be charged an additional 10 per cent Tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy.”
He further said he’s prepared to tariff and punish countries that challenge the US dollar as the global reserve currency. He say the dollar losing its status “would be like lising a war, a major world war.”
Experts believe that this decision will severely impact India’s exports, making Indian goods much costlier in the US market. As India’s economy is already struggling with multiple challenges, the new US tariffs could further worsen the situation, shaking investor confidence.
