Islamabad, Nov 12: Trump Nominates Congresswoman Elise Stefanik as U.N. Ambassador. US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, a longtime supporter with limited foreign policy background, to be the United States ambassador to the United Nations, as announced by a Trump transition official on Monday.
Stefanik, who is 40 years old, marks Trump’s first Cabinet selection for his upcoming second term in office. “I am proud to nominate Chairwoman Elise Stefanik as my Cabinet member in the role of U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Elise is a remarkably strong, resilient, and intelligent advocate for America First,” Trump stated on Monday.
At the UN Headquarters in New York, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, when asked about her appointment, remarked, “We will engage constructively with the Permanent Representative of the United States, as we do with representatives from all other nations.”
Stefanik, at the age of 40, has been a fervent supporter of Israel and just a day prior to last week’s presidential election, she had advocated for the defunding of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East
