Islamabad, June 17, 2025: Tensions between Israel and Iran surged for a fifth consecutive day, plunging the Middle East deeper into conflict as reports of missile strikes, air defense systems, and civilian casualties emerged across Tehran and Natanz. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump called on Iranians to urgently evacuate the capital, citing Tehran’s refusal to accept a proposed nuclear agreement.
At the G7 summit in Canada, global leaders urged immediate de-escalation. The joint communiqué stressed that Iran must never possess a nuclear weapon while reiterating Israel’s sovereign right to defend itself. Despite the growing crisis, Trump abruptly left the summit and denied French President Emmanuel Macron’s claim that the U.S. had proposed a ceasefire.
“Wrong! He has no idea why I’m returning to Washington. It has nothing to do with a ceasefire. It’s much bigger than that,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform late Monday, dismissing speculation surrounding diplomatic negotiations.
Earlier, Trump made a dramatic appeal to Iranian citizens: “Iran should’ve signed the deal I offered. What a tragedy—so many lives lost. I’ve said it time and again: IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. Everyone should evacuate Tehran immediately.”
On the ground, chaos unfolded in Iran’s capital as loud blasts echoed across eastern Tehran. Local media outlets showed scenes of activated air defense systems and plumes of smoke rising over the city. The city of Natanz, known for its sensitive nuclear facilities, was also reportedly targeted.
In a late-night strike, Israel claimed responsibility for bombing Iran’s state-run broadcasting offices. A live news broadcast was disrupted mid-air as an explosion rocked the building. Iranian state TV later confirmed three fatalities in the attack.
