Islamabad, June 29, 2025: A 19-year-old Tunisian girl, Senda Ayari, who came to Pakistan to marry a local youth she met on social media, has been handed over to the Tunisian Embassy after seeking refuge at the Liaquatabad Women Police Station in Karachi.
Senda arrived in Karachi from Tunisia in November last year to marry a young man named Amir from Lyari, whom she befriended online. The couple tied the knot on November 29, but their relationship soured, and after seven months, Amir divorced her. He reportedly abandoned her at a local restaurant following the separation.
Distressed and alone, Senda reached out to the Liaquatabad Women Police Station for help. SHO Uzma Khan confirmed to the media that two officials from the Tunisian Embassy arrived at the police station and took custody of the young woman.
SHO Khan stated that the Tunisian Embassy has taken full responsibility for Senda Ayari’s return to her homeland. The embassy will arrange her exit permit and airline ticket for repatriation. The incident highlights the risks involved in international online relationships and the importance of timely diplomatic intervention.
