At Gamescom 2025, US-based developer Saber Interactive officially revealed Turok: Origins, a modern reboot of the legendary dinosaur-hunting franchise that first rose to fame on the Nintendo 64 in the late 1990s. The revival promises a fresh mix of cinematic storytelling, survival gameplay, and both single-player and multiplayer experiences.
The Turok series originally began as a comic book hero in the 1950s before making a groundbreaking transition to gaming. Its Nintendo 64 entries quickly became fan favorites, praised for their prehistoric environments and innovative first-person mechanics. However, after the underwhelming 2008 reboot, the franchise seemed to vanish — until now.
Saber Interactive, best known for breathing life into franchises like Evil Dead and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, has taken on the ambitious task of restoring Turok’s legacy. The studio promises that Turok: Origins will blend the thrill of dinosaur survival with high-octane alien combat, bringing together elements that feel both nostalgic and new.
According to Saber’s studio head, Jesus Iglesias, Universal Studios — the powerhouse behind Jurassic Park — approached the team in 2020 to reimagine the iconic brand. The end result is a third-person shooter that merges prehistoric creatures with extraterrestrial enemies, delivering an atmosphere that channels both Jurassic Park and Predator. Iglesias emphasized that this reboot pays homage to the beloved Turok 1 and Turok 2 while introducing fresh lore and modern mechanics.

Development of the game peaked with over 250 developers working to create an experience tailored to today’s gaming standards. Players can expect fluid movement, immersive combat sequences, and engaging multiplayer battles. Unlike the 2008 attempt, which fans largely rejected, Turok: Origins aims to respect the franchise’s roots while elevating it for next-gen consoles.
