Islamabad, Aug 6, 2025: Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim have officially signed with Northern Superchargers for The Hundred 2025 edition, becoming the first Pakistani cricketers to land contracts for this year competition. This marks a key development especially amid earlier uncertainty about Pakistani representation in the league.

Imad has been brought in as a stand-in for New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner, who will miss a couple of fixtures due to national team commitments. Amir, on the other hand, steps in for Australian left-arm pacer Ben Dwarshuis, who has withdrawn from the entire season due to overlapping international duties.

Concerns had surfaced earlier this year over whether Pakistani athletes would be sidelined from The Hundred following changes in the tournament’s ownership. From October 1, Northern Superchargers will be officially managed by India’s Sun Group. With various other teams now owned by Indian or Indian-American groups, there were fears that players from Pakistan might be excluded.

These worries intensified when no Pakistani male cricketer was chosen in the March draft. However, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) clarified that selections are based solely on merit and availability, not nationality.

Analysts suggest Pakistan busy international calendar including a white-ball tour of the West Indies and a tri-nation event in the UAE was the main reason for the lack of Pakistani picks. Additionally, last-minute withdrawals by key bowlers like Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah in the past may have played a role.
