Islamabad, May 24, 2025: According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) , the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has experienced an unprecedented heatwave, with temperature hitting a scorching 50.4 degrees Celsius, the highest ever recorded in May.
“The highest temperature recorded over the country today is 50.4°C in Al Shawamekh (Abu Dhabi) at 14:30 UAE Local time,” the NCM stated in a message on X.
Speaking to AFP, an NCM official confirmed, “This is the highest temperature we’ve ever recorded (for May) since we started keeping records in 2003.”
The previous May record was 50.2°C, documented in 2009, the center added.

UAE has been recording higher temperatures than usual even before the season begins. Last month, the UAE recorded its hottest April with an average daily maximum of 42.6 degrees Celsius.
The NMC on Friday issued safety guidelines for heat, advising residents to stay out of the sun, drink plenty of fluids, wear suitable clothes and use sunscreen.
