Islamabad, Mar 13, 2025: Residents of the UAE are gearing up for an extended break of up to five days in celebration of Eid Al Fitr, marking the first long holiday of 2025.
The duration of the UAE Eid holidays will depend on the sighting of the crescent Moon, determining whether it spans four or five days, inclusive of the weekend.
According to astronomical forecasts, the holiday is expected to last five days. Eid Al Fitr, which signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan, falls on the first day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar.
The exact dates depend on the moon-sighting process, which confirms the conclusion of Ramadan.
The UAE’s official moon-sighting committee will convene on Ramadan 29 (Saturday, March 29) to observe the sky.
If observers spot the crescent Moon, Ramadan will conclude after 29 days, and people will observe the Eid holiday from Sunday, March 30, to Tuesday, April 1.
With the preceding Saturday included, this would result in a four-day holiday period.
However, if the Moon is not visible on March 29, Ramadan will extend to 30 days.

In this case, authorities will also consider the 30th of Ramadan a holiday, extending the Eid break from Sunday, March 30, to Wednesday, April 2, including the prior Saturday, making it a five-day holiday.
The Dubai Astronomy Group projects that Ramadan will last the full 30 days, suggesting that UAE residents will enjoy a five-day Eid Al Fitr holiday.
Officials will confirm the holiday schedule on March 29 following the moon-sighting process.
The Dubai Astronomy Group has invited residents to participate in this traditional practice by looking towards the western horizon after sunset.
Authorities encourage them to use telescopes or binoculars to enhance visibility and report their findings.
Experts anticipate that the crescent Moon marking the arrival of Eid Al Fitr will be visible in the UAE on the evening of March 30.
Consequently, residents expect UAE Eid holidays celebrations to commence on March 31, giving them ample time to partake in festivities with family and friends.
