Incorporating cutting-edge security features and sustainable materials to enhance the country’s modern financial system.
Key Features of the New Banknote
- Polymer Material: The banknote is made from polymer, making it twice as durable as traditional paper notes and more environmentally friendly.
- Advanced Security Enhancements: Features such as Spark Flow Direction and Kinegram Colors help prevent counterfeiting.
- Accessibility for the Visually Impaired: The note includes Braille symbols for easier identification.
- Distinct Design & Color: Designed in shades of red, the new note ensures clear distinction from existing banknotes.

Design & Symbolism
The front of the banknote features the historic Umm Al Quwain Fort, representing the UAE’s cultural heritage.
The reverse side showcases Fujairah Port and Etihad Rail, symbolizing the country’s modern infrastructure and economic progress.
Legal Status & Implementation
The new 100-dirham note entered circulation on March 24, 2025, and will coexist with the existing version. Banks and exchange houses have been directed to update ATMs and currency-counting machines accordingly.
Governor’s Statement
Khaled Mohammed Balama, Governor of the UAE Central Bank, emphasized that the new banknote aligns with the UAE’s commitment to sustainable development and reflects both historical values and future aspirations.
