Islamabad, 7 May, 2025: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern over India’s recent missile strikes on Pakistan, urging both nations to show restraint.

A spokesperson for Guterres, Stephane Dujarric, issued a statement expressing the Secretary-General’s alarm over the military actions along LoC and the international border.

Guterres warned that a military conflict between the two could have disastrous global consequences, urging the international community to prevent it.

The remarks came in the wake of India’s missile attacks, which were part of its operation, “Operation Sindoor.”

These strikes targeted several sites in Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir, escalating the already heightened tensions between the two nations.

The missile strikes followed the tragic attack on the tourist resort of Pahalgam in Indian-administered Kashmir last month, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people.

India accused Pakistan of “cross-border links” to the attack, but Pakistan denied the claims and called for an impartial, third-party investigation.

In retaliation, both countries have imposed diplomatic measures, such as recalling diplomatic staff and canceling visas for each other’s citizens.

India also announced the suspension of its participation in the Indus Waters Treaty, a 1960 agreement on water distribution with Pakistan, further heightening tensions.
